By setting up a DLNA server you can share media with all the devices that are connected to the network. By setting up a DLNA server on your PC for example, you can share photos, videos, and music with the smartphones, tablets, or smart TVs that are connected to the network. Any device on the network can connect to the DLNA server and access shared media files.

Setting up a DLNA server could prove to be a bit of hassle – but it doesn’t have to, no when you use a tool like Nils Maier’s free SimpleDLNA. The best thing about is that it works right out of the box. This is, as the official description goes, a zero-config DLNA media server. You don’t have to play around with complicated settings, you just have to fire this baby up.

Speaking of which, getting SimpleDLNA up and running on a Windows PC is a very simple matter. You just have to download an MSI installer, run it, and then follow the simple instructions presented onscreen by a setup wizard. You’ll be done in no time at all.

Logs are presented down at the bottom on SimpleDLNA’s interface. A list of servers is presented at the top. In the middle there are buttons to start a server, edit its properties, remove it from the list, rescan it, and create a new server. In the upper left hand corner, where it’s usually located, there’s a traditional File Menu.

SimpleDLNA minimizes to the system tray. When you click the minimize button, it will go into the system tray. When you click the close button, it will go to the system tray. To close the application you must go to the File Menu and select Exit. Or you can just right click the system tray icon and select Exit.

SimpleDLNA works right out of the box. It lets you easily create a server and conveniently share media over the network.
